Welcome to the January 2016 Newsletter.

This issue of our e-newsletter includes new research from Hitachi Solutions that suggests a significant rise in the uptake of cloud for ERP implementations, especially among enterprise users: 31 percent of organisations have moved all or part of their ERP systems to the Cloud, or are in the process of doing so, and 44 percent said they would consider moving ERP to the Cloud in the future. Tim Rowe, Director, Hitachi Solutions Europe said, “While in some areas movement to the Cloud has been quite rapid, because ERP is seen as business critical and inherently complex, it has been slower to move to Cloud. Now, however, we are starting to see a shift as the benefits start to outweigh the perceived risks.”

What we found interesting from the figures was the benefits being recognised by those firms who have made the move: 30% said the main benefit to them had been easier access to information, perhaps predictably. Maybe less predictable is the risks as perceived by respondents: 38%% went for the obvious privacy/data security issue, but almost as many (35%) were concerned at ‘dependency on a third party provider’. Several expressed concerns around the selection of third parties and the clear implication is that many feel they are not adequately informed in advance of making a buying decision. At an enterprise level especially, the ability to rely on partners is clearly crucial. Is the industry doing enough to help?
