This latest edition of the Storage magazine eNewsletter includes a feature on the growth in surveillance data storage - not just from CCTV cameras on every street corner, but increasingly from body-worn video (BWV) cameras used by police and other public servants. Even my local MP has taken to wearing a video camera at all times when walking around Westminster, in order to ensure any interactions he has with protestors and the like are recorded - which in this age of clever edits and misrepresentation, is probably a sensible approach!
As StorageCraft’s Florian Malecki comments in the article: “Love them or hate them, video surveillance systems are here to stay and have become an essential part of the justice system we all rely on. However, surveillance is no good to anyone if footage is deleted due to inadequate storage or hacked by cyber-criminals as a result of poor protection. Organisations should invest strategically in scalable storage solutions that protect data as it is stored, to help build a future-proofed system that can adapt to changing modern requirements.”
