Welcome to our August eNewsletter – if you’re currently on Summer holidays, a dose of Document Manager is surely a better read than the latest Dan Brown! A news item in this issue discusses the inexorable rise of Ransomware and its effects on businesses and customers alike.
SolarWinds’ approach is to emphasise the importance of regular reliable backups, with its new offering aimed specifically at automated backup and recovery of business documents, so as to minimise the negative effects of Petya, WannaCry and the like. Their global cloud network promises easy access at any time, and with twice-daily backups it could be just the thing for IT managers looking to offload part of their security burden. We think it’s a shame though, that users are having to treat Ransomware attacks as almost an inevitable consequence of using IT systems in the first place. Wouldn’t it be great if our systems were not so open to malicious encryption by random strangers? Is that too much to hope for?
