Welcome to the August 2018 Newsletter.
We’ve something of a security focus this month, with several articles that consider how we can best manage the ever-shifting attack surface. Ramón Vicens, CTO at cyber threat intelligence company Blueliv, shines a light on the Dark Web, a subset of the deep web that many of us are still largely unfamiliar with, let alone have actually ventured into. Ramón’s article considers whether it’s possible to act like a cybercriminal for good, explaining that “The best way to fight cybercrime on the darknet is to operate in much the same way as the bad guys. As they build communities to exchange information and TTPs, so must we.”
Also this month Moshe Elias, Director of Product Marketing at Allot, examines the rise of mobile and IoT device attacks. With “approximately six billion consumer IoT devices connected worldwide and 2.6 billion smartphone subscriptions globally”, what can be done at the network level to mitigate the security threat they represent?
Finally Jim Liddle, CEO at Storage Made Easy, explores the importance of data encryption in our new multi-cloud, GDPR era. With the right encryption in place, Jim explains, your company’s data will still be secure even in the event of a breach. With the prospect of GDPR fines now very much a reality, it’s a timely read for organisations both large and small.
