Welcome to our first newsletter of the new year. We’re starting 2021 with several articles that examine what the next twelve months might have in store for our industry. First, Jeremy Spencer, General Manager of Corporate Propositions, BT Enterprise, explains how 2021 will see 5G shift “from a boardroom buzzword to the subject of a more meaningful conversation around how it can help achieve business priorities.” 5G has the potential to become a true catalyst for digital transformation but, as Jeremy explain, a recent BT survey found that “many business leaders are still unclear on how the technology can be best leveraged.”
Also this month Stephen Burke, Cyber Risk Aware CEO and Founder, looks at what 2021 has in store for cybersecurity. As Stephen points out 2020 was a bumper year for the cybercriminal: “In the UK, businesses experienced a 31% increase in cybercrime during the height of the pandemic, with phishing emails up by nearly 700%, preying on what should be a company's greatest cyber defense asset; their employees.” It’s clear that technology alone won’t halt the surge in cybercrime, but Stephen believes that we can draw some positives from this turbulent time: “In the Covid-19 era we have all learnt the importance of community and culture, this same lesson has been learnt in cybersecurity too.”
Finally, Gurpreet Purewal, Associate Vice President, Business Development, iResearch Services gives us an insight into the role artificial intelligence will play in the coming year. What are the key challenges to overcome in order to bring AI into your organisation? Read Gurpreet’s article to find out.
