We have to start this issue with the news that the 2022 Network Computing Awards have been postponed due to last week’s rail strike. Like everyone else we were hoping for an eleventh hour postponement of the strike – late cancellations and trains are an iconic duo after all – but unfortunately we’ve had to reschedule. We will have a new date for the evening awards ceremony available soon, so please visit the awards website for more information
It’s a little too apt then that this month’s newsletter features a number of articles on hybrid and remote working. First, Kevin Peterson, Senior Cybersecurity Strategist at Xalient looks at the security implications of the hybrid and remote working mega-trend. Has our new hybrid working environment made the traditional network “irrelevant” and will Zero Trust sound the death knell for VPNs? Read Kevin’s article for more. We also have Peter Olive, CEO and Founder of Vortex 6, sharing his experience of these new modes of working over the past two years. Peter highlights some key aspects that organisations need to watch out for when adopting a remote or hybrid working model, stating that “What we all need to consider, as employees and employers, is what is going to help achieve those personal and business goals? What sort of environment and culture are you striving to operate in, and where might you be willing to compromise?”
With a new SolarWinds report (featured in the news section) finding that 53% of tech professionals feel they lack visibility into the majority of their organisation's apps and infrastructure, there’s never been a better time to gain a clearer insight into our new hybrid working reality.
