Welcome to our last Storage magazine eNewsletter for 2017; as the winter nights draw in our thoughts turn naturally to the year to come, and what it might bring for the storage sector and the IT industry in general. GDPR comes in soon of course, and this will doubtless be a significant driver for much of the strategic planning happening right now in boardrooms across the UK and indeed the world.
We’ve frankly been quite surprised not to have seen a plethora of software-based ‘solution’ offerings from companies promising a silver bullet to the potential issues of compliance with this wide-reaching legislation – but perhaps this is in itself a reflection of a more mature marketplace and savvier buyers, who recognise that GDPR is as much about process management and internal systems as it is about software products.
What else might influence the way the storage market changes over 2018? A growth in flash in the data centre, perhaps, driven by greater takeup of NVMe? Increased use of AI and robotics? We’d love to hear your thoughts, and you might even get featured in our usual ‘predictions’ piece in January – drop me a line at the email address below, and have a great Christmas.
